Trans gone

My friend has a 2000 GTP with like 75k on it. It is slightly modded and when he backed up into the street the other day he went to put it into drive and all the gears were gone except for reverse. If you put the car in 1st pretty much redlined the car will move a lil, extremely bad slipping we took the filter out to see if it was clogged and well a piece fell out of the trans. Any ideas what broke? Thanx for any advice.

Re: Trans gone

Hard to say but sounds like you need to get it to a tranny shop. What does the piece look like?

Re: Trans gone

Well the piece is def off something big and circular because it is slightly rounded. its maybe 2 inches by 1 inch wide 2 pieces stamped together i think, the one side is bent out and then does a U and comes back looks kinda like an ohms sign from the side. sorry i dont have a pic of it. Looks like it only broke off one side too. Also to my knowledge whatever broke off has nothing to do with the torque converter because that was my first guess when my friend said all the gears were gone but the piece came out too far over to the side and you can kinda feel where it broke off.

Doesn't sound good. It would be nice if you could post a pic of it. The major parts located underneath are the 1-2 and 2-3 accumulators, 2-1 manual band servos, thermo element and oil pump.

Maybe Troy1 can help. He is a Tranny Tech with a Grand Prix.

Re: Trans gone

Yea a pic would be nice. Did it make any strange sounds before it stopped? I'm thinking a piece of the forward band broke off. does it have friction on one side?
