Talking Installed SAFC

I finally got it all hooked up and ready to go.

I had some problems before with the MAP sensor hooked up. Turns out you do actually need to disconnect the battery. I know... follow instructions. I got the controller hooked up to a DB9 serial port (male), hooked into a female serial on the dash, under the radio. I've also got another male connector with a jumper in it, so I can take out the controller, and drive normal. The jumper jsut reconnects the broken MAP wire back together. I know... I make things complicated. It's fun...

I must say I am liking it so far. I've been playing around with the settings while driving. There is a little more pull. I got the idle beautfully set. When I get off the gas and put her in nuetral, the idles drops to 800rpm quickly and smoothly.

The car is running so much smoother all around too. When I would pull up to my g/fs house, her dogs would go crazy and wait for me at the door. Now, they don't even hear me (unless I fly down the block). But if I pull up normal, the car just sounds better.

At WOT or high throttle, the car is louder. It sounds deeper and more real. I like the way my exhaust sounds, but it's lower now. Must be cause it's running richer now.

Also, at WOT with the header and exhaust, it usually sarts screaming at about 4200 rpm. With the tuning, it sounds like its "opening up" earlier. It now starts at about 3600rpm. Then it pulls you back. I wish I had tires with grip on them. It would be so much better. They're coming this summer.

I need to log my trips and set everything up perfectly. I've been just messing around and seeing what works, but so far I've gotten it pretty good. A WBO2 would work so much better. I was going to buy one with the money I made from shoveling snow... but, it's barely snowed here. And this is Chicago. It's been warm. I can't wait to hit up the track this summer.

Sounds cool..me and a friend will be hooking my afc up thursday along with my other parts I have in my sig. You have afc1 or 2? I have 1, bought it dirt cheap used with a bunch of parts. Looking forward to seeing what you run on the track with that 420a, keep it up man. Peace...

ps// any tips or suggestions for hooking it up or tunning... my friend is gonna kind of teach me as we go...

I got afc1. Got it cheap also. Slightly used. I think I got it from ZedEx on here. That sounds right.

You have a different hookup bc the ECU is in the dash. Its so much easier for you. One thing that helps is using aligator clips. I stripped the wires on the ECU and then used the clips to hook the controller on to. Works beautifully. Make sure they're insulated tho. I got a pack of like 10 at radio shack for like $2.80.

I want to run a 14.99 at the track. (Or better... of course) I know thats sad, but N/A all the way.

david...are you logging at all? I might get an SAFC soon and I was just wondering if it was worth it to get the logger at the same time. I'm really leaning towards getting it just so I know what's going on inside my engine, but I was wondering what kind of number differences you're seeing with the SAFC, and are any of them bad?

I am also curious as to what you are using to log and see that you are actually tuned correctly. I'd suggest getting a WBO2 or something that you can watch timing and A/F ratio. Your Stock O2 sensor is not something I would go off as it fluxuates so much.

I have a datalogger. No WBO2 yet, but working on it. I haven't really logged too much with it. Just messing around for the most part. Nothing too big. I haven't had time to sit down and tune everything by the book yet. Its been too cold, and I've been too busy. Ill keep you updated
