starting problems
When I start up my chevelle it starts. but when I put it into drive it dies. The GEN light is the only light on. Is it the alternator? Or what could it be?

Re: starting problems
Might be unrelated to the generator light. Check your vacuum lines, you could have some rotted ones, loose ones, or improperly connected ones. Or a clogged fuel filter. I'm assuming it starts right back up again.

Re: starting problems
What is the RPM at idle? Is it an auto or stick?
The gas station I worked at 30 years ago towed a car off the interstate. The car just died and would not restart. The owner told us his brother in law just did a complete backyard tune up. The mechanic pushed the car in the bay and the first thing he did was take off the air cleaner assembly and laid it on the bench. He spent two days looking for the problem. The car ran just fine. He let it run for five hours straight in the lot. Nothing. The owner was paranoid and did not want to drive the car. The station owner agreed to take the car to a shop down the street. The mechanic went and got the air cleaner assembly and put it on the car while it was still running. The car died. Take the lid off the air filter if it still runs the air filter needs replacing. |

Re: starting problems
That could be almost anything. It is probably a choke adjustment, is it ok once you let it run for a few minutes before driving off?
