GTO import Question

Quick question about importing a GTO from either japan or the uk. First is it honestly worth the hassle to do such a thing, or just hunt for the right VR4 here in the states. Also if it is worth the effort does anyone have any suggestion of a company i might be able to go through to get one sent here.

Re: GTO import Question

Unless you really want a RHD, I'd just stick with looking for a VR-4 in the states. They'll probably be cheaper, and you won't be paying $3-4K to ship it into the states.

Re: GTO import Question

3-4K? HA! youd be able to afford two VR-4s for the cost of one GTO.

Just get the VR-4 man, why complicate yourself with taxes, port duties, import fee, legalizing, emissions penalty, ect...

Re: GTO import Question

If right hand drive is worth an additional 20-40 grand to you...then why not.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Exactly. You cant even legalize a GTO in the states. And once again they are 3000gt's in the UK too. There are GTO's there but they werent originally sold there.

It aint even that easy for Skylines. Skylines cant just be imported and legalized by anybody. Motorex is the only source to buy legal for US use Skylines. And they are in hot water with the DOT right now.

Re: GTO import Question

Umm motorex is out of business last i herd been out for awhile for using customer funds for questionable things *not the cars* Even then it was like 20k to legalalize a R32 or R33 the R34 obdII is not DOT and whatever approved. As for the GTO being converted it would have fit the dot import critera which is like is there a simular car sold here yes the 3kgt as far rhd the only car the DOT list to RHD after legaliztion is the skyline the rest they needs to be converted unless the manfacture will say the car will still pass the frontal/side impacts and Mitsu to my knowledge hasn't ** you would have to ask them for a copy of the GTO crash tests then see if they met the US regualtions.. * As far if any company does it check the US registerd importers list. This might piss alot of ppl but if they they importer/legalizer isn't on that list you are looking at they aren't legal and you don't want to go there. Last i checked most places its a felony cause its fraud*you are saying you car is a legal car which it isn't* plus upto 5 years/250k i think fine. So don' mess around personally the RHD and GTO stiching on the seat arn't worth it. You want that find a 3kgt VR4 that has been wreaked find a GTO front clip and a good shop and then find some GTO seat and there u go. But as far as i know the power differnce isn't all that much *i've herd nothing more then 10-15 at crank* Umm idk if i missed anything if i did i'll post about it later. I'll try to find that list of cars approved for importation later today.

EDIT: ooo Yah bout the who company all the fine shit/fraud/ plus the crush the car
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/...LIG010906.html the GTO isn't on the List so all that was pointless if you want RHD that bad find a JDM front clip and shop like i said.
