Keyless entry remotes

I bought a 96 Firebird about a year ago and have had 3 KERs go bad on me now. I'm looking at some on ebay but I'm not 100% positive they would work for my car. Some say 96-97 year models some say 96-2002 and they don't all look the same. I don't want to pay dealer price though and even at autozone they are pushing $60. I bought 2 from them and one went bad already.

Anyone had trouble with theirs? I'm down to just one working now and you're pretty much screwed without one. There is a number on the back of the originals but it doesnt match with anything I've seen on ebay.

Here's a few I'm looking at.

Re: Keyless entry remotes

Sure it isn't batteries dieing?
Owners manual should have a spot telling you how to 're-program' them for your car.

Seems like that is too many going bad on you.

Re: Keyless entry remotes

It's not the batteries. I tried a fresh one. The green light blinks but it doesn't unlock the door. I also tried reprogramming and that didn't work either. It just quite working on the car. Weird.

Re: Keyless entry remotes

Have you installed any new electronics on your car, amps etc? Sometimes slight interferrence will cause a remote to quit. There should also be a black wire coming off the remote module in the car that goes to nothing, thats the antenna for the receiver, make sure thats not cut or near anything electronic.

Re: Keyless entry remotes

You can interchange any remote from 96-02. They all are FCC: ABO1502T, which have identical circuit boards inside. If you open the 3 button remote, you see it does have the 4 button circuits. The only difference between the remotes is if the case has 3 or 4 buttons.

Re: Keyless entry remotes

I just bought a 97 firebird and the keyless entry remotes do not work right. I have the 4 button remote but the only buttons that work are the panic button and the lock button sometimes. I have tride reprograming the remotes the way the manual suggests but there is no change. One thing I noticed is when I hold the lock and unlock buttons down for the 16 seconds is the door locks do not cycle all the way to unlock. They make the noise like they did but they are still locked.

The batteries were replaced about a year ago think that might be the problem?

Thanks doodad. I did get new batteries and It works now some what. I have to roll my thumb around on the unlock button but it works now. One other question you might be able to help me with. How do I keep the head light from lifting up and down when I lock and unlock the doors. My head light motor on the drivers side grinds and I want to stop them from flashing every time. I would like for the horn to beep though.

Can you help with this one?

l am glad it works now man...

well you should have an owners manual in your car.. check it and you will see keyless entry programming pages.. there some different programs on those pages.. if you want you can just make your car flash lights, or if you want you can make no flashing lights.. just check your owners manual, you will be able to see and reprogram it, it is so easy!!

goodluck man!!
