Question Question about transmission flush...

My car is currently at 57K miles and was thinking about another transmission power flush. The first one was done right at 30K miles and about 2 years ago. My question is, do you guys think I should just do a drain and refil or a complete power flush again? I've heard about people with 60K or more miles on their Aleros having transmission problems after getting their first power flush. I've also heard it is because a power flush knocks fictional material loose in older transmissions, causing them to slip.

Right now I'm thinking I'll do the power flush, since my first one came at 30K miles (not too much stuff to knock loose, causing problems later), but I just wanted to get some opinions...

Thanks,

Jeremy

Re: Question about transmission flush...

Change the fluid and filter only. The power flush is not necessary and as you already stated you could do internal damage to the clutches on the transmission. Changing the fluid and filter at regular intervals will maintain your transmission but will not do any damage.

Re: Question about transmission flush...

I agree with Lynn, however, be careful what you wish for and you may want to leave well enough alone. Unless you are having tranny problems or the fluid looks questionable I would leave it alone. Since you did a flush/fluid change at 30K miles there really is no need to do a tranny service. A 50K mile interval is satisfactory so wait until around 80K miles. Although I don't agree with it GM says you can go 100K miles before the first tranny service. I use the 50K interval, regardless.

If the screen filter was not replaced back at 30K miles then by all means go ahead with a pan drop consisting of ATF and filter change. At 57K miles you may experience problems not just with slippage but valve body/solenoid and/or other mechanical problems if you decide to do another full or power flush.
