Reminder to check your spare tire

I don't check my spare tires air often enough, even though it's easy to get too.

And I know that I'm not the only one here that doesn't

Anyways I did check it yesterday, and discovered that it only had 5 PSI.
Not high enough if required.

Just a good thing that I didn't need it in the middle of no-where.

I get what your sayin man i didnt even have to check mine to know it needed air. I was putting a new tire cover on the spare and I realized that with my thumb i could push the tire down at least an inch.

Re: Reminder to check your spare tire

I haven't checked mine for 9 years now.
I had the cover off of it once. Just never needed to use it. I got the rear hatch mounted swing-out unit.
Think I can make it another 9 years?

Al that I can say, is Good Luck Mike!

I hope that none of us ever need them, but they're there for a reason

Re: Reminder to check your spare tire

If i do need it i got me a full size spare now. I had a flat one time out camping 3 hours from home. Had to come home with fix a flat in the tire because i just did not trust an undersize spare tire on the Interstate.

Re: Reminder to check your spare tire

I always carry a portable air compressor that plugs into the cigerette lighter as part of my emergency preparedness kit. I also carry a tire plug kit, flashlight, light sticks, jumper cables, a tow strap, a piece of rope, wire coat hangers, duct tape, RTV silicone, teflon tape, adjustable wrench, multi tip screwdriver, vise grips, hacksaw, first aid kit and a fire extinguisher. In the winter I carry a snow shovel, blankets, food, and some instant heat packs.

Sounds like the entire garage (minus the beer refrigerator)

Do you have any room for a passenger in the car?

Re: Reminder to check your spare tire

Most of it fits inside my center console, I've removed the CD holder and covered the hole with a piece of lexan. The hacksaw fits under the jack cover.

Re: Reminder to check your spare tire

I carry most of the stuff that you do hunter, altough I haven't gotten the first aid kit or the fire extinguisher.

I don't like those cig lighter air compressors. I've got 1 in my car and it took 20 min jut to get enough air in that small tire to get to the filling station.
I'm looking into installing a second air conditioner compressor just for that reason on the Blazer. (unless I can somehow tap 2 systems into the 1 compressor)

In the winter I also carry a set of chains, med sized floor jack, extra oil, and antifreeze This is all stored right over my rear tires in a HUGE tupperware container. It's pretty well stuffed to capacity,

Re: Reminder to check your spare tire

i checked my spare about a month ago, and had to add about 3psi. the rim its on has rust pits all over it. The only thing i carry in my truck is a first aid kit, and now, an ice scraper and small shovel. i have a portable compressor i got from target but it doesn't do shit, just makes a hell of a lot of noise.

Re: Reminder to check your spare tire

I agree they do take a long time, but if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere it's a good thing to have. I like the idea of turning an AC compressor into an air compressor, but I think you have to keep them lubricated with oil in the refrigerant.

Re: Reminder to check your spare tire

I checked my spare tire and it had 9 psi in it. I looked on the spare and it sayed to fill it to 60 psi, is this ok, or should I do less? 60 psi just doesn't sound right to me.
