Well I just noticed today that up in front on the drivers side I have allot of rust starting to bubble thru the paint. So I popped the hood and the underside near the front lip is full of this cancer!!
Now I know we have a rust "thru" warranty however this isn't thru ....Yet! So if I bring this to the dealer my guess is they will tell me they will fix it at a cost!! Does anyone know if there might be a recall for this? The car is only 4 years old this should not be happening!! Marc |

Re: 2002 hood rust
recalls are for safety related issues.
This really doesnt fall under those guidelines. It does fall under the outer body rust thru. Demand that the hood is replaced not repaired. Quote:

Went to the dealer yesterday....they wont cover it under rust through because it isn't through!
Better yet it isn't rust! We have auminum hoods and it is oxidation under the paint that is bubbling up! It apears to be a common problem as the manager new exactly what I was talking about before he even looked at it. Yet it still isn't covered. If it is this common then you would think GM would stand behind their product?? Dealer said if it was under 36k miles he could warranty it under the bumper to bumper but I have 80k! He also stated he hasn't seen one do it in that time period. So everyone watch your hoods. |

Re: 2002 hood rust
I had the same problem. A friend of our family is the manager of a local GM dealer. He said GM had a problem with the primer used in production and it was not only an issue with the Aurora, but also with other GM vehicles. Anyway, he fixed it for me free of charge and pushed it through the system. I think that is the only way to get this covered. Good luck finding a sympathetic dealer.

Re: 2002 hood rust
I had the same thing on my 99, but the kids basketball net fell on to the hood during a wind storm. The rusted area went away while they fixed the dent and repainted the hood.
