compression test results!
alright I did a compression test on my 91civic dx to find out why I am loosing so much oil and here are the results
(cyl #1: 163)(cyl #2: 155)(cyl #3: 157)(cyl#4: 152), now I look up the specs and I think I should have a compression of 175-185(?) so this means on all cylinders there is some sort of a problem, but this doesnt seem bad enough to cause the loss of a qrt of oil per 400-500miles, does it? I must add I did this test after I did a valve lash adjustment so I dont know how that could effect this! let me know what you guys think... thanks in advance |

Re: compression test results!
could be a few of things, piston rings are not sealing properly or valve seats.
try this, put a spoonful of oil in the cylinder and re-test it. if the result is higher your piston rings are not sealing properly, if result is similar, the valve seats are to blame.

Re: compression test results!
135 should be about the minimum. Also, each cylinder is pretty close to the 10% margin. You dont have a perfect motor, or a bad motor. Just a little tired.

Re: compression test results!
I agree with Kris. I think the compression should be somewhere between 135-185. With yours still being where its at, I would just see it as a tired motor, nothing too serious. If it were lower than 135, yea, check the rings, then the valve seats, but I wouldn't worry about it yet.
