88 240 dl stalling problem !HELP!

my baby loves to stall. for a while it onley happend when i had to brake hard. so if i felt it going i could simply let off the brake a bit and that seemed to do the trick most of the time.the other day it happend while accelerating and that would be the first time. i can't seem to pinpoint the problem. usually when it stalls it starts right back so it's not a huge deal but it still sucks. i want her back to her prime shape. the other weird thing i noticed is that i can hear a hiss sound everytime i turn the car off. i was told that this could just be the sound of a piston falling into place but it seems to sound more like pressure being released to me. like she is sighing with releif that i am letting her rest. if you have any thoughts let me know, it would be much apreaciated.

OK heres some things to start with on your 240. Clean the throttlebody, that will help. Also replace your flame trap/pcv system, check for any vacuum hoses that have come lose. Other than that it sounds like a little problem thats easily fixed. Overall shouldnt take you more than about 4 hours to do all that if you have never done any of that before.

BTW I am a Volvo Tech I am not all that knowledgable on the older volvos but I can help out with what I have found works on customers cars.

Re: 88 240 dl stalling problem !HELP!

If the throttle body cleaning doesnt help, do a complete electrical tune up, plugs, rotor, cap, and wires, and you must replace the PICK UP COIL in your distributor. Spray the plug out on your air flow meter with tuner cleaner (radio shack) and also on the drivers side there might be a power up module, (large aluminum heat sink on it), CLEAN THAT CONNECTOR UP TOO.... After a heavy drenching of spray, go back and forth about a dozen times to help clean the contacts off, rinse with final heavy spray.
DAVE.....
