6x9's in the roof?

I've got a 97 4door and I'm trying to replace the stock crappy 4x10's, anyone with experience, think this mounting kit will work:

Re: 6x9's in the roof?

The biggest problem you are going to run into is mounting depth.

Pull off the covers in the back, i'm pretty sure you pull towards the front of the truck, they just hook into place. Unscrew the 4 x 10's and measure the distance from the roof to the metal mount location.

If you have a pair of 6x9s in mind, check the mounting depth, if it matches, good deal. My guess is that it won't...unfortunately the magnet size needed to push a good speaker is going to exceed the factory depth. I assume you don't want to have speakers sticking out without the factory covers over the top of them.

What I did was settle on a pair of 4x6s, two screws fit in the factory locations, and two had to be drilled. The biggest problem is that simple 6x9s or 4x6s aren't going to provide nearly enough bass to be heard at the front of the car. Use the rear, top mounted speakers to provide midrange and highs, and compliment that with a small sub or two mounted in the back if that is what you are looking for. 4x6s are excellent at the mid frequencies, and they are easy to find, and cheap to find as well. 4x10s are pretty expensive, (must be the wierd sizing) and 6x9s are just going to be a waste of money if you are wanting bass and all around sound.

Hopefully that helps...

Re: 6x9's in the roof?

thanks for the replies, I guess I should explained my situation, currently I have infinity perfect components up front and perfect subs in the back as well, I wanted to replace the crudy stock speakers and keep with the infinity line throughout the truck, but infinity doesn't make 4x10s

Since pikappkaz says 4x6's work with just a few extra holes, I think I'll go with those then
