Reseting MAINT REQ'D light

Okay, Chrysler's amazing maintainece reminder has activated its wonderful self to remind me of maintainece that was done long before the light ever came on.

According to my handy Haines manual on my 1990 D-150 5.2l V8 Regular Cab reseting this p.o.s requires a neat little tool from Chrysler.

My question(s):

1.) Is there a more simplistic way to reset this thing short of having to bug my mechanic to plug a reader into it and reset it.

2.) Will it effect the vehicle systems in anyway if I unhook the emr module alltogether as I'm not so dumb as to not have a copy of the maintainece schedule already. And also will it turn that infernal light off?

For those that might not remember, the EMR is a little module that does little other than measure mileage and turn on a little light to remind you that so much mileage is up and according to its program its time to pay chrysler money. (Mind you, this is my assumption based on the descriptions of what it does in the Haines manual).

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes?

That would be my guess too.

Just fix whatever is wrong. Then the light might shut off.

Re: Reseting MAINT REQ'D light

There isn't ANYTHING wrong, the light doesn't have any sensors whatsoever this isn't your check engine light, its just designed to turn on at certain mileage intervals to tell you that Chryslers says to come and spend money at your local dealer and nothing else. Its the most useless component in the whole truck.

Re: Reseting MAINT REQ'D light

Several years ago I had an 88 Dodge Raider. The maint. light came on at 50000 miles. I called the dealer and was told that it came on just to remind you to take it to the stealership so they could charge just to reset it. I put black tape over it. The light went off at 75,000 qnd came back on at 100,000.

Re: Reseting MAINT REQ'D light

What I wonder is if it would cause any problems with the trucks eletrical system if I just removed the EMR module all together. Its not hard to get to, as its located right behind the glove box.
