Intake Manifold "goodwill warranty" Toronto Area
Has anyone had any luck getting their intake manifold gaskets repaired under the "goodwill warranty" at a GM dealer in the Toronto area? If so what were the details (vehicle year/mileage etc) and at what dealer?
Thanks, Mark |

Mark,
Yes, I did at Laurie Williamson Pontiac in Mississauga (Glen Erin Dr. North of Dundas) This was in Sept/2004. I didn't know it was a known problem at the time - they covered the repair at no charge. I have a 2001 Montana, I think I was at about 65,000 km at the time. Regards, Laurie |

Thanks for your replies. I will need to have the gaskets done on my own as I am over the 5 year limit, but still under the mileage limit. At least it looks like mine is leaking out of the engine instead of into the engine.

A friend sent me this link to a CTV segment that aired on March 30, 2006.
Interesting spin on a known problem for sure. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew...0406/20060406/ I think it echoes the sentiment that most have expressed many times; - if GM knew they had a problem, why not fix it as a recall and get some brownie points with their customers instead of hiding under a bushel and hoping no one would notice. How much is good will worth these days? - obviously not very much to GM! Last edited by 1999montana; 04-08-2006 at 05:15 PM. |

If this is the same problem I just posted (Oil/Coolant leak), I'm on the hook for about $5k but the dealer did repair the leaky gaskets at n/c.

What symptoms did you guys notice? I have found coolant on the top of the engine. It looks like it is coming from top center area. I washed the top off and ran the engine and watched, started to see coolant coming from that area. Looks like it is an intake gasket problem to me, but I want to be sure. Does this goodwill warranty cover all of the repair minus the deductible? How do yo go about find out more about this?

Old thread here, should really start a new one, but what warranty, so far nobody I know got help with this unless an extended policy was in effect. Again, year is missing for any meaningful answer here. What engine also. Please get used to doing this! I see Toronto, so I am not familiar with possible different internal policies in Canada.

Sorry, it is a 200 Pontiac Montana 3.4L, 97,000 miles. Pontiac rep I talked to today says they are not aware of any intake or head gasket problems. Neither did the Dealership in my town here in Oregon.

You could take a look at my gallery pics to see what a 'leaky' and good gasket might look like. pics are from drivers side front. Note 'wet' look in pic titled bdgskt (or something like that)

Re: Intake Manifold "goodwill warranty" Toronto Area
Sorry about the year. My van is also a 2000 with 3.4L engine. I went ahead and had it repaired on my own. I noticed a slight drop in coolant in the reservoir and found some dried coolant on between the intake and block. Looked like it only leaked to the outside. I decided to have it repaired right away since it is only a matter of time before you would need to fix it. At the same time I had the plugs and wires changed along with the rad flush and thermostat. Normal maintenance the way I see it. And since everything is apart anyway, might as well.
A coworker had his intake gaskets changed on his Malibu at the Woodbridge dealer (407 & Weston Rd area.) I gave him a copy of the service bulletin and at first they denied knowledge of a widespread poblem until they saw the copy of the bulletin. His only cost was a rad flush (I think he said they charged him $100 total) I think if you have given a dealer a lot of business, they may be willing to help out. (Maybe cover some or all of the repair) Mark |

There are a few bulletins and many gasket design changes over the last few years. Also on your vehicle, I would suspect the rear head gasket might be leaking also. Getting this covered under Goodwill at this point in time..probally isn't going to happen
