Opinions please.

A friend of mine just recently bought a Golf (Not sure on year, but it's late eighties), with a 2.4L engine from an Audi, rebuilt head with titanium springs and valves, aftermarket cams, rebuilt bottom end, short-shift kit, and some suspension mods. He's not exactly sure on a lot of the details, but he says it's dropped 2 inches and runs 14.7 seconds. Apparently, it just stopped running one day and he thinks it's not getting fuel. It's in the shop right now, and he wants to just sell it. He's asking $1700. I know quite a bit about cars so I can do any repairs myself. The bottom end has 50k miles and the head has 20k. I definately won't buy it if it's an electrical issue, like the PCM, but if't something simple I'd like to snatch this thing up. Do you guys think this is a good deal? If not, how much should I offer him?

Re: Opinions please.

i would go on to ebay and see how much the engine sells for. then offer him that much. cause if it is something that you arent willing to fix, then you should at least be able to get your money back.
