Need more info, is leaking close to the firewall at the tranny area or at the back of the engine close to the firwall?

Re: coolant leakage

Is the engine a 24v or 12v, 24valve has the water bypass tube at the tranny area, 12valve has the thermostat housing at that point, best way is follow the hose from the rad at the top and identify where they attach to the engine.

Never actually saw it, but my Dad's '97 Taurus GL had a freeze plug blow inside the tranny area. The tranny had to be removed to get at it. $700 to replace a $5 plug! He dumped the car immediately afterward. That was the last straw...

I am not familiar with just where your bad freeze plug is located. They make a rubber freeze plug that you insert and tighten a bolt to install. These work great where there is no room to pound in a replacement standard freeze plug. Of course you still have to have room to be able to remove the old freeze plug and be able to install the much simpler rubber freeze plug. So this may or may not work for you. Hope this works.

Re: coolant leakage

sucks to spend that much money on a car that isn't worht that. every time you crack the hood on that Taurus it can be 500-1000. its got to go.
