99 dim odometer

My son just acquired a 99 Cav. At first, we couldn't even find the odometer, but then realized that the digital odo is very dim.

Anyone know what sort of fix this is, easy-hard, cheap-expensive etc.? If you really shade the area with your hands you can read it, or barely at night.

Thanks.

Yes, all the other dash lights work normally as far as I can tell. It's just the digital tach that's dim (very).

Re: 99 dim odometer

Not true. Can be fixed for about $9.00.

My odometer was very very dim, but I could still read it. I removed the insterment cluster, removed the screws in the back and a silver cardbord cover. There was a blub (brown plastic socket" that could be removed. There were no numbers on the blub.

I took the blub inot my GM dealer. He did have a really hard time finding the part, but he did return with a blub. It cold $9.00 and once i put it in, it was fixed. I have the part number for the blub at home and will post it. PART NUMBER GM#16208443

This fix takes time but not allot of money.

dino

Directions to remove the insterment cluster:
