Replace Brake Line?

Hello,
Last night I was driving home from work on the highway in my 1997 Taurus. I hit the brakes and I had full pressure for a couple of seconds and then the peddle hit the floor. I managed to get home using the e-brake. Fluid was leaking from under the driver’s side door. My question is has anyone replaced one of these lines, how hard is it, and what tools will I need?

Thank you for any suggestions,
Rumsford

Re: Replace Brake Line?

You will need some brake line wrenches.
Remove the complete line and go to the parts place and have them fix you up with what you need.
You may need to couple several lines together. Depending on wht line and how bad it all is rusted up.
Get a sercvice manual on bleeding brakes and follow instructions.
Good Luck

Re: Replace Brake Line?

That just happened to me on mine last fall. I just went ahead and replaced both lines from just behind the front wheel to the rear valve above the axle. Might as well do them both while you are down there or you most likely will be doing the other one shortly. They tend to start leaking where the steel bracket is attached to both the lines.

Re: Replace Brake Line?

Due to the snow we got this weekend I decided to just take it to the shop. They replaced the lines on both sides for $350 most of it labor, it was rusted pretty bad. I need to build a garage!

Thanks for your help.

Re: Replace Brake Line?

10-4 on that.
That labor bill would have gave you a start on that garage.
But anyway you got it fixed.
Thanks for posting back and letting us know how it went.

Re: Replace Brake Line?

Sometimes it's easier just to pay a trusted shop to do the work than to mess around with it yourself. I try to most of the work myself when I have time but every once in awhile I say 'Fvck it' and let someone else bust their knuckles .
