I need a sub for my explorer

I blew my stock sub, and i need a new one. I want to get a bigger one, and i found this one. I still have the stock amp, But could i use this sub with my stock wiring? I dont really know anything about audio, so what would i have to do to use this sub in my explorer? Its a 94 btw. I dont want to spend a lot, jsut get the bass back. It sounds really shitty. I cant make ripples in a bottle of water if my life depended on it.

The sub

Re: I need a sub for my explorer

if you want to put a sub back in the stock location, you need to measure it and buy one that size. Aftermarket speakers are typically less efficient, so it may not have as much bass with the same amp.

Re: I need a sub for my explorer

the stock sub is 6.5" i think, but it goes inside the rear interior panel. Ill jsut get this one with a box and put it right there, but outside the interior panel, it will stay between my wheel well arch and by back hatch.

Re: I need a sub for my explorer

one 8" sub can easily keep up with an OEM stereo.

Re: I need a sub for my explorer

thought id update. I bought some no name 10 dollar sub at walmart. I was driving down the road about a month later (this happened a while ago) and the bass just cut out for a second, then came back for a sec, then cut out totally. never came back on.

My mom says i probably blew my amp. The sub makes no noise whatsever. Its not torn or anything like the old stock one.

What do you guys think? Im porbably just gonna buy a whole new stock sub/amp/casing unit or something.

Why stay stock, you have tones of room and even then a small sealed enclosure and a small amp can make enough bass. You can do a whole amp, sub, enclosure setup for under 250 in most cases, depending on amount of bass and quality.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.

first, don't buy audio crap from wal-mart unless it's an amp wiring kit (well, my pioneer amp came from wal-mart 4 years ago and still runs strong) but not subs. I still think you should invest in an aftermarket sub and box (12s like i said before, but that's what i'd do). sure it won't be "clean and hidden" in the panel, but it will sound a LOT better than almost any factory system.
