Partial Loss of Power
'97 2.2
Plugs and wires are new. It never had good pick-up to start with, but now it takes forever to get from 25mph to 50mph, even if floored. This condition seemed to happen rather suddenly a couple days ago. Everything seems fine except for this lack of quickness to 50mph. Once there it runs fine. Any guesses?? thanks |

Re: Partial Loss of Power
Change your fuel filter. Then run a can of seafoam in the fuel tank.

Re: Partial Loss of Power
heres a good question did it get worse after you changed the plugs. and wires. Could be either a bad wire or a mis positioned wire

Re: Partial Loss of Power
It has run well for a couple months since i changed plugs and wires.
No codes logged. TPS is OK. Fuel & air filters have been replaced recently. Never heard of this seafoam stuff. Have to check it out. Still struggling to find something. thanks |

Re: Partial Loss of Power
What kinda mileage do you have on the car?
I've never heard of seafoam before but you could try running a few tanks of gas with some injector cleaner in it. If you have a sticky or partially plugged injector, this may help. If it is an injector you may want to take it to a garage to have them clean the injectors this they would use a more concentrated formula. The stuff you put in your tank once in a while is usually best for preventative maintenance. If it has a lot of mileage it could be possible that you have a plugged catalytic conveter or a worn out camshaft. |

Re: Partial Loss of Power
182,000 mi
I thought about the injector cleaner. I'll try the pour-in type, but that hasn't worked too well when they were dirty before. A cleaning fee of about $120 at a shop around here. Was trying to avoid that. clogged converter, could be. camshaft, maybe. Do you know of any way to check those things? ------Feels like trying to accelerate with the brake partially on------- I've narrowed it down to about a dozen different things. Might take a while. |

Re: Partial Loss of Power
check oxygen sensor casue i lost some power with mine when it was bad and once i replace it it ran good. not sure if it can be the problem. all i know is it can give the computer a bad reading and then different amouts of gas. has the gas been staying about the same level for a long amount of time?
