Cat converter and o2 sensor

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-C...37106708QQrdZ1

Is whats in the above link really a high flow cat? I found alot that appeared to be just test pipes marked as high flow cat's. I was also wondering with this can I still use the o2 sensor so that I may pass emissions. It looks like it should work (see the bolt on the one end.. i'm assuming the sensor goes there..

If anyone has one and could let me know that would be great thanks!

Re: Cat converter and o2 sensor

I doubt that it's real. For $25 more, you can get the magnaflow cat that I got (check out the thread "Opinions on exhaust setup" for a link) which is EPA and CARB certified. And it has 3" in/out rather than 2.5". Just a thought...

Re: Cat converter and o2 sensor

I see. Does that allow you to use the o2 sensor then? I need that for emissions I don't want to have to change out my cat every time emissions rolls around.

As per shpyder's post in your thread I'm looking to do his dual dual tip exhaust setup (the mufflers are sitting in my room actually just need to pick piping) and I can't really go larger then 2.5" for that. I guess I could go 3" up until the cat and then after when I do the y drop it to 2.5"

Re: Cat converter and o2 sensor

I don't know about the O2 sensor question. I certainly hope so because I'm going for an emissions legal car as well. I didn't realize there was an O2 sensor back there.

Re: Cat converter and o2 sensor

Sorry for the double post.

Now you've got me worried. I just found this cat on ebay where you can get the O2 bung as well.

Re: Cat converter and o2 sensor

it looks just like a test pipe to me. e-mail the company and ask them to take a picture of the inside of it.

Re: Cat converter and o2 sensor

From what I have read it is just a resonator. I don't know how they have gotten away with saying it's a cat for this long. There are 2 o2 sensors--one in the o2 housing and one after the cat (its job being to report if the cat is functioning). With a hig-flow cat such as the Magnaflow or a Catco (both around $60 w/out flanges welded on), they should not report a CEL. W/out a cat you will need to take out the 2nd o2 sensor and wrap it in tin foil or some other method to avoid a CEL.

Re: Cat converter and o2 sensor

i wasn't trying to be cheap. I just don't know what is good in this application. I've searched but no one gave a definitive answer like these are good and you can pass emissions with them.

If I had that id drop the money. but the magnaflow is the first i heard of hey this is good and you can pass emissions but now im not sure about the o2 sensor question.

Does anyone have a high flow cat, with an o2 sensor properly installed that doesn't throw a cell or would fail emissions? if so what brand and where did you get it from?

Re: Cat converter and o2 sensor

As far as i know there shouldn't be a cat that eliminates the O2 the O2 sensor is behind the cat correct?

Re: Cat converter and o2 sensor

I changed my order to the Magnaflow 94039. It has a bung already in it to put the rear O2 sensor. Stock, the O2 sensor is in the pipe after the cat but since I'm changing the pipes, I needed somewhere else to put the O2 sensor. You can just leave it connected and wire tie it up under your car. The rear O2 doesn't do anything except check to see you have a working cat. When your cat goes bad, it emits a gas that fouls the sensor, causing it to fail. Thats when you get a CEL and what would cause you to fail emissions. If you take it out of the system but leave it connected (or do the mod on VFAQ) you won't get a CEL.

A CEL will cause you to fail emissions on a 95+ eclipse from what I gather (depending on what state you are in and what kind of tests they run). I'm not worried about passing emissions with my soon-to-be setup.

Re: Cat converter and o2 sensor

here we have visual (I assume that a missing o2 sensor would make it fault not sure htough), gas cap check, and also a check of the computer for 96+ obdII vehicles.

Re: Cat converter and o2 sensor

95 eclipses are OBDII compliant. I haven't gotten it done yet but from what I've hear, MA sounds about the same.

Re: Cat converter and o2 sensor

im not sure what they would od there though because our law i believe calls out 96 + get that and below that you get a different set of tests. as of 96 manufacturers were obdII required I think.
