The power of a V8 from a V6

Most Chevy V8's Have only 220 to 270 hp from the factory. The mighty Z28 from the early ninety's has maybe 250 hp at the rear wheels and that is on a good day. We have anywhere from 170 to 190hp at the crank under optimal conditions . That being engine out, on a dyno with perfect intake air temp and full acc. The advantage of keeping your v6 . The v6 4.3 is basicly a 350 v8 engine with two cylanders cut off. Many part's of the v8 350 can be used on our 4.3 v6. I know this because I use the pistons the rockers the valves and a few other internals on my v6, our engines are capable of insane horsepower. one engine comes to mind ,there is a v6 twin turbo typhoon that has close to 1000hp!! Another Blazer that I don't want to go against is also a v6, it is called the Ghetto Sled. Look it up on the internet and go to Race proven Motors, you can watch the video's .

i was watching trucks one morning and they had an S10 SS truck with a 400hp all motor cpi 4.3. that was cool. I agree that there are benefits from building the v6.

multiport 350s have up to 315 horses bone stock, while the 4.3 multi port has 180 or so, it all depends on how the beast is fed

This is a build up of a very early v6, Some of the mods are now standerd on 97 and above vortec's. Remember this is a early engine!

Welcome to Automotive Forums.

Try pulling the lever and then bumping the driver's side front corner of the hood with your hand. If it opens, oil the latch, and you should be fine.

Re: The power of a V8 from a V6

Question for you Blazer SS, How long does a 400hp 403 last?

Personally I can't see the bottom ends bearings lasting all that long, even with Synthetic oil.
But if you figure it'll last as long as a 400hp 406 it might be something for me to consider for 1 of my rods

Re: The power of a V8 from a V6

I like what I have done to my 4.3 . What little I lost in economy , I gained in reliabilty and drivability . But I was battling a throttle body FI problem for over a year . 2 top mechanics and myself could solve it . Now I can lite up my big tires with little effort . I still have the HP cam to install when I HAVE TO . But I can wait . When I do , I will change the valve sizes and the rocker ratios to 1.6 . Rob

Re: The power of a V8 from a V6

Okay where do I start? First of all the 1.6 roller tip rockers are the best thing to do for waking up a vortec's cam. the stock camshaft is not bad at all. The Problem is with the stock rocker arms, they are of poor quality stamped unbalenced and unmatched for rocker opening ratios. They can be way off, they are stock at 1.5, but with the factory tolerences they can actualy read 1.4, meaning some valves are opening properly and some aren't, Just imagine 6 buckets sitting under 6 faucets, Now open all of the faucets at the same time, now since the faucets are not balenced some of the buckets will fill up faster and slower than the others. Now the buckets are your pistons and the faucets are your valves, How do you think a engine will work if a few of the piston chambers are full and some of them are not?
Now after market rocker arms are way better in the quality department, If they say 1.6 ,believe me they are close to it. This is for the two major Crane and Comp. And remember the later models of vortecs are non adjustable, meaning that you just tighten down the nuts until it stops and walk away. You can change all of your rockers in less than an hour! All for around $170.00 remember to get metric rocker balls, they don't come with the kit.

I have 383hp at the rear wheels from my V6 and it is a 4x4, to run that much power I have forged everything and with the upcoming nitrous and the stroker kit, I Will see a lot more than this, You really have to pay very close attention to tolerences! It is the difference between something lasting and something sitting in a oily heap of smoking metal.

Re: The power of a V8 from a V6

God! I just read my post,do I sound like a windbag or what ? What I was trying to say (factory rockers BAD) Aftermarket GOOD. I love my Blazer the size is perfect and the power is great, Just when I start talking about engines I get a little carried away. I had a factory bottom end for a long time and It carried the power well, I switched for future upgrades and I still use the original 4L60 that came with it. Chevy Does make GOOD things. I mean Have you ever driven anything that handles like a Blazer in the snow? I tried to get it stuck, I couldn't do it!
