Serious, Very Serious, Let's Talk About Rice
Now before this gets closed/locked/ or I get banned for trying to stick my head where it doesn't belong, I want to know, what you, the actual honda civic drivers(is this the EK forum? >_O) think about the word 'riceburner' or the fact that a lot of people think you, the civic public, believes that vinyl adds horsepower,
which is ridiculous. And if there are people who drive your same type of cars, that are THIS stupid, why don't the seasoned veterans try to teach them about what's right what's fast, how to correctly modify a car and not a bodykit. Quite frankly I'M REALLY TIRED OF HEARING THE WORD RICER *sighs* now I'm guessing most of you are gonna claim you're not even ricers, so what? there's not one ricer on AF? So can someone tell me NOT what others percieve a ricer is, but what a ricer REALLY is and stands for and what you're gonna do about it? Because everyone calls you ricers. Thankyou and please don't ban me permanently .....

Re: Serious, Very Serious, Let's Talk About Rice
Well I dislike the word 'rice' too, and i hear it alot for my 93 Civic Si Hatch. But I dunno, it's really a loose term. And whoever made u the 'vinyl adds horsepower' wasnt even a person who would be considered a 'ricer' rather just an idiot making fun of someone with a badly designed vinyl (i dont like vinyl at all unless its stripes or a little pinstripe, but custom paintjobs with pictures are sweet though). Decals are there because we like the company that the sticker represents, we dont believe it gives us any horsepower, again though i dont use decals so i cant really say 'we' or 'us'.
My point is, people like their cars, thats how it is, and odds are, it's not going to be what you like. But when it is give them props, or even more respectfully, if the look is downright dumb, but the craftsmanship and funciton is beyond perfect, you should give them just as much respect as a tuner, being they put hard knowledged time and effort into createing something they believe is unique and different. Now if the car has just a front bumper that offsets the whole vehicle, the lighting is a different color than the paint and doesnt seem to fit any color scheme, has a huge quick-bolt-on drag-inducing aluminum wing, and vinyl that looks like it could be drawn by a 4 year old, then just dont look at it, plain and simple. We all arent in it for the speed (i am ) , the scene, or even for the looks. But we all like our cars, and dislike other cars... So It'll be a loong while before muscleheads, tuners, and custom car show people all get along. Though my ideal car is a sweet honda Si or acura type-s with some big wheels, big balls of power via turbo and internal build, a nice bright candy blue or green with a mild kit on it, custom interior in and out, is the ideal car, as i would also drive a built up any year GTO (or pontiac really) with a good huge full blown engine with a blower any day of the wek, and i think there should be more like me out there.

Re: Serious, Very Serious, Let's Talk About Rice
well to start off its not only civic/honda owners at that, that makes the import scene look bad theres plenty other car makes that ppl rice out...
Vinyl dont add shit it looks stupid, Just cause most ricer's have it dont mean they agree it adds HP. Im guessing most go for looks but it's the gay.. Body kits dont add shit, wings dont add shit.. ^^That stuff right there is what gets hondas called ricers & all the teenage punks that thinks cause they have a EGAY intake there faster then a LS-1 or whatever there against... Not every civic is Rice, maybe ones where your from or see online but there are clean swapped civics/other make cars at that... Hell what about the camaro's/mustangs and whatnot ppl rice out come on lets talk about that, or even the mitsu's and whatnot..Ive seen plenty hell ive even seen riced out looking corvettes rolling down the highway with the gay metal wings and whatnot...Theres plenty all over the U.S. and whatnot it goes both ways so before you bring up a subject about HONDUHS as most domestics and others call them lets try and think about your own car families that ppl rice out.. I bet i could pull up plenty of websites that sells ricer parts and they have at least 1+ riced out Domestic or anything else... Good point made right there... Im not gonna argue or whatever but like i said it goes both ways..Theres all sorts off ppl that makes both types of vehicles look bad Imports/Domestics.. So what do you think about other vehicles besides hondas are those Ok to rice or is it just a honda that is not aloud to be included in rice are hondas to cool to rice for most ppl.. I myself dislike any sort of rice type parts...But hell i just bought myself a set of projector headlights as a temporary fix cause they was $20 dollars and i was in bad need of a set...So i guess that makes me in the ricer scene for now untill i find a good set of OEM headlights... Re: Serious, Very Serious, Let's Talk About Rice
It's just a term. That's all. I used to drive big displacement monsters back in the days. I guess the fastest accelerating car that I had was a 64 Ford Galaxie with 390. 850 double pumper, performer RPM intake, JE 20 over pistons, storked. Headers and cut outs and all... Man that was a fun car. Anyways, back then all my buddies had stickers up the wazoo lining the windows. Call be a red neck, but that was what we did.
Now I love my "rice burner". Year, given that I don't agree with body kits and stickers, but I understand why people do it. They want to be unique and be individual. I don't think there is any thing wrong with that. Also the fact that a kid thinks his or her car is the fastest in the world is not that bad. I used to think that my cars were the fastest, but there were many instances where I just got smoked. Once this old lady in a plymouth belvedere pulled up next to me. Of course I thought I can smoke her. But nooo. I reved my motor and when the light turned green, she was 20 yards in front of me in a few seconds. Her license plate read 66 hemi. Anyways, all I am saying is that I was young and naive. But after awhile I learned. I think it is the same with "ricers" these days. They or we are just being kids.

btw, why is it that whenever i type the words 50hp vinyl people think i believe it? to answer the question before this one, I came to this forum because honda is the #1 target so you guys most have the most experience, know what's up. I initially thought rice meant anything japanese, and then others say it can mean any car ever made to look stupid, I see LT1s with whiteout tailights and i'm like wtf, you can call that rice, I call it both rice and illegal But I'm mostly saying I think rice started out meaning asian cars/trucks/bikes. I never liked the term, ever. Too many flaws. Let's try to keep this thread open though to get more comments, maybe I should even move it to a more popular forum, no offense, I mean a general car forum if there's one that this appeals to. hang on i've got one more reply to read |

Re: Serious, Very Serious, Let's Talk About Rice
i drive a 98 civic. built a few hours from my house in the great state of ohio.
you cant call that a jap car. that would be like calling half of the GMC's and others a mexican car, because they are made in mexico i even hear that camarhoes were made in canadia? the whole idea of imports is over, as for hondas at least.

Re: Serious, Very Serious, Let's Talk About Rice
Good point and your right. Camaro's were built in Canada the last generation and I had a BMW that was built just 2 states from my house in North Carolina. Despite how it may look I don't think quicksilver is trying to flame you guys. He is just confused on the use of the term since it did start out being mainly a Asian car manufactor term. Although like I explained in another thread, now adays if you look hard enough you (or sometimes you don't have to) you will find any car riced out.

Okay so I can't argue about the type of car because it really is all preference what you choose to drive(civic, camaro, bmw, sport truck). I have nothing against a nicely modified, or even a stock civic hatch. I used to have a CRX(did I mention this? first car) I once did the rice thing, only performance mod was a loud muffler, atleast it added power. But i knew next to nothing about engines and transmission, I had an auto and it slipped from 1st to 3rd I believe, 0-60 was fun, I counted the seconds, for a while. But I learned and i'm still learning. Atleast I never put on a body kit..I painted the calipers/drums, had gunmetal rims from motegi, I painted the door jamb gunmetal to match..lol and had seatbelt covers..those were annoying. Nothing really slowed me down, no spoiler, but I almost bought a wide body, that black widow one had just come out, Those are my fond memories of ricehood. |

Re: Serious, Very Serious, Let's Talk About Rice
the thing I hate is a lot of people call hondas and other tuner cars ricers. Even some of my redneck friends talk about how they want to buy a honda and build a little "ricer" out of it. The term has changed in the past five years. Back in the day rice was a ghetto ass car with a big spoiler, graphics, and other gay things. Now days, most people call any honda or tuner car rice just because it's a tuner car....

That's right, just call people more names, you're not making any progress. Back in 01, in high school a rice burner was any japanese/korean vehicle. And 'rice' was for the most part okay. I don't remember camaro/mustang owners fighting with compact car owners either. What you should worry about is what the person using the word 'ricer' means by it, is it jap or crap? not a combination of the two. Same thing goes for when someone calls someone else a 'redneck', damnit now i'm going to have to make a thread about what is a redneck, thanks a lot |

Re: Serious, Very Serious, Let's Talk About Rice
Interesting topic here. Personally I despise the term "rice" or "ricer." I think nowadays any car with a body kit or even rims for that matter is automatically called a ricer. If the person wants to make his car look nice that way, I dont think that person should be judged or degraded for that simple matter. Not everyone is out looking to make their car the fastest in the world. If the person wants a show car, then let them show it off and salute the person for the money and effort spent on the car to make it look nice. Don't mock the person and call him or her a "ricer" just because there is not much under the hood.

Did I just read this? That's 5 minutes I'll never get back. And 45 seconds wasted explaining my disdain for this thread.
