Angry Tranny Problems HELP!!!

I have a 1996 Bonny. It started something very strange to me. When the car is first started it will go great for about 1/4 mile, then the trans will slip so bad that it will not move the car. If I turn off the car and restart it after about 30 seconds it will move for about another 1/4 mile. When the car is moving I here a strange rattling seemingly coming from the bellhousing. If anyone knows what might be causing this problem please reply.

Re: Tranny Problems HELP!!!

If its coming from the bell the torque converter could of failed and plugged the filter. as for driving for a 1/4mile then slipping & shutting the engine off and then it works fine again. That’s a sign of a plugged filter.

Re: Tranny Problems HELP!!!

I have decided to replace the tranny. will it be a hard job? I have considered a getrag 5-speed or a 4t65-e. will either be extremely hard?
