Convert Auto to Man 96 xr7????

I am woundering about converting my trans to a manual I have been told that the cougar has a similar mountings and would be the easiest to covert with is the 96 mustang. My cougar is the 4.6L V8.

Yes, you can use a manual transmission out of a '96 Mustang (T45).
You will need an shifter extension box.
The driveshaft will need to be shortened, or a custom shaft made up, using the T45 type Yoke.
Your EEC will need to be re-programmed.
I'm sure there is more to the conversion.

Hi, RE your conversion to manual trans,Consider the fact that you will have to POSSIBLY reprogram the processor, or most likely replace it with the proper one for the manual shift conversion, The processor presently in the vehicle is programed for auto trans application in ALL aspects, Examples are to name just a few.....ignition timing and advance curve, air fuel ratio, I wish you luck, just trying to help.....GOOD LUCK,....Clay..
