99 Tahoe: Everything is breaking at once.
Just had the water pump replaced, but that wasn't all the problem. Need to get the intake manifold gaskets replaced too.
Needs new brakes. Any suggestions as to which are the best kind to get? I got some prices from NAPA. They have Safety Stop brand semi-ceramic 60/40. There is United ceramic. They said you get more life out of the rotors with semi-ceramic, but you don't have as quick of a stop. I had to take out the courtesy lights fuse Jan. 2nd bc my lights started going on and off on their own. They would not stop. Then with the car parked and key out of the ignition they stayed on. On occassion now, with the fuse still out, I hear a chattering noise under the dash. I have seen some good posts on this in the archives, but is there anymore current ideas to look for? I am going to use the previous post suggestions to start with. I have always had a problem with the locks locking and unlocking. Also always had problems with the windows in the back. Sometimes all 4 windows will go down and up. Other times either the left, back window will go down and not the right and vice versa. The battery cable keeps getting corroded. Maybe antifreeze is hitting it from the previous leak in the water pump and now the leaking intake manifold gasket? This time the battery is still working with the corrosion. I got some of it off. In December it caused starting problems. It would start and I would turn it off. Then immediately try to start again and it wouldn't start. The whole dash board would light up like Christmas tree lights with all the words lighting up and blinking randomly. The bracket on the sway bar has broken apart for the 2nd time. Exactly one year from the first broken one on the same side. Everyone keeps saying those things don't break. Two summers ago replaced the fuel pump. Never suspected a problem. Just went out. Neat how you can hit it with a 2 x 4 to get it to start. Two person job though. Bought it Sept 11, 2001. Guess that was a jinks right there. lol. One owner with 60,000 miles. Even the carpet still looked brand new. Any suggestions on anything above would be much appreciated. Thanks, April [email protected] |

Re: 99 Tahoe: Everything is breaking at once.
Brake pads are really a personal preference to most folks, but I prefer the Bendix. They usually last as long or longer than the others and have a great warranty. The downside is the price tends to be a little more, but a lot of folks say, "You get what you pay for."
