Just bought my first accord

I just bought my first honda accord. Its a 1990 lx. The girl i bought it from blew a head gasket and im going to replace it this weekend only paid 500 cause a shop told her she needed a new motor. So where going to check to make sure the cylinder walls arent pitted, or anything else.

My first plans are to do exhaust, intake and some konig wheels, my neighbor has a jdm h23a with about 70k miles on im might buy for 500. I know i can use the stock f22 tranny and motor mounts. and eventually plan to do a h22 head conversion and a stroker kit maybe turbo it eventually.

I love the ways these cars look they have the square jdm style headlights granted its a 4 door the mustangs wont expect a 4 door grocery getter to stomp there asses. Any info on the head swap would be greatly apreciated.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.

Re: Just bought my first accord

i thought you couldn't swap the h22 head onto the h23 because of the vtec solenoids...or maybe i'm just stupid

H22 head on an H23 is a sad excuse for not getting an H22 to begin with ..

Re: Just bought my first accord

Ok so more torque and higher compression is a sad excuse for a motor, sound like a ricer to me, thats like the guy who said why would you put a vtec head on a non vtec motor (think about it). And considering its a project i might as well do something not usually done and i can get my hands on the block with no problem. Ive researched the swap and its not that hard just some light machining which i can do for free and well i dont really want to spend 1200 for a damn motor when i could get one for about half or even less. Just have to work my neighbor down a bit.

Re: Just bought my first accord

don't worry what other people say, just do your own thing, just keep us posted with your progress because i am always interested in head + block combos (ls vtec ^ ^) . Good luck and take your time.

Re: Just bought my first accord

Hell if i listen to what people tell as far as opinions then well i wouldnt get very far, thats why some of my posts might make me seem like an asshole dont talk shit unless you know shit but what the hell no one gives a damn.

Another thing i was looking at was a vtec head swap on my stock motor
F22A1 i believe, i can get my hands on some higher compression pistons and forged rods for a pretty good price, (its nice to work for a race shop). But i was looking for info on that the head gaskets where almost identical i know i need the vtec solenoid, ECU, head, distributor, etc. Since my neighbor wont sell me the motor he wants a street destroyer out of 89 civic hatch.
