I guess the d16z5 is the motor that came in the 1990 edm crx 1.6-16,that is the european version of the si...124hp.dohc,I got lucky and the guy who had it before me blew the original motor and honda put a new one in,this one has very few miles onit now and the car is in mint condition.

sure its not a d16a9? ...more commonly known as the zc? I was under the impression that that was what all the EDM/JDM si's had...

no it's...

no it is the d16z5 according to the data plate and the engine code on the block.the 1.6vt is germany's version of the siR w/b16a...honda put the new motor in this so i guess they put the right engine in it.but the original question is can i bring it back without a problem cuz i talked to a guy w/right hand drive siR and he is having problems w/epa cert

Question

Yo Jason..
Any chance the car had a ZC in it (euro spec d16a9) and then since this is a replacement motor, Honda put in a newer spec d16z? originally destined for a 5th gen Civic? If all us enthusiast peeps can figure out a 5g d-series motor bolts into a 4g I am sure the Honda peeps know that shit too. And 124HP sounds about right from the usual slight de-tune the EDM's get over the 127HP d16z6 we have over here.

jcrx - What's the serial # on the motor? maybe someone here can decypher it that way? -
I dunno much about the differences between USDM & EDM cars, but maybe if you slap a US cat on it, you could get it certed that way.

Oh yeah!!...and welcome to the board

z5 is out of a CRX 1.6i better known as the ED9 (edm version).
hp=124@6800
torque (nm/rpm)=140@5700
0-100kmh (62mph)=8,5s
Top Speed (kmh/mph) =208/129

that enough explanation for ya? :silly2:

That sounds like the euro ZC to me
Is the torque (140) in Newton Meters or Ft/lbs. ???? - that sounds pretty high for a torque number

As far as I can tell the car is the same as the jdm with respect to body and interior differences.the motor amy hit it on the head.i heard it is the same engine as some usdm integras but that is moot.I think cuz I am military I can get a waiver for emmisions to bring it back as a hardship but not sure about DOT.

actually, it's ami it's all good you can call me by my first name...generally friends do *we're all friends here *

you should stop by: Bracer's site for more EDM info. he has more info and pics than anyone i know. you could always stop by 4thGenerationCivic.com but there isn't as much EDM info

LoL, thanks Ami

You were right with the Z5 specs but Europe also had the D16A9 in the CRX. Roughly you can say that the 88 and 89 Crx had the D16A9 (130hp) and the 90 and 91 had the D16Z5 (124hp).
It's said that the Z5 has a different ECU, exhaust manifold and different cams also the A9 has no cat.

btw, same goes for the D16A6, the 90 91 models have a D16Z2.

I've heard some stories that Honda introduced the "milder" D16Z5 in 1990 because the B16A CRX was introduced that year in Europe and they wanted the performance difference between the 2 models to be a little bigger. I doubt if that story is true though.
