thermostat

where can i find the thermostat on a 1996 grand am se?

Welcome to AF!!!

It would be helpful if you posted the size engine you have. The V6 is located where the upper radiator hose attaches to the block. The 4 cylinder, 2.4 is located under the car on the back side of the engine. It is hard to access in order to change it.

Follow the top radiator hose to the top of the engine. Where the hose connects to the engine is the thermostat housing. It is secured with two bolts. Remove it and the thermostat is located under it. You will need to drain the coolant down below the top radiator hose before you remove the hose and the housing.
