Theft protection radios

I am moving my Clarion CD unit from a 94 GP and am going to put the original back in. Am I going to have any problems if it is one of the Theft deterent models? Shouldn't it just work since it is the original vehicle?

Re: Thest protection radios

You will probably need the unlock code. These radios are designed to lock when removed. You may have to go to a dealer to get the code to unlock the radio if you don't have it. Good Luck!

PS. The dealer may want to charge you for the code so don't be surprised.

Re: Thest protection radios

IF you never enabled the theft deterrent function, you should have no problem. When you took the old radio out, was the LED near the words Theft-lock on? If so, you'll need the code, if not, it was never turned on and you should have no problem.

Re: Thest protection radios

It was changed out almost 6 years ago by an audio company so I have no idea what was or was not enabled. In fact, I am not even sure it was a theft protected model, it is still wrapped up out in my shop. I noticed tha standard model in the new GP I picked up said that on it which made me wonder. I hope to change the heads out tonight when I get home. I will keep my fingers crossed the old one will work.

Re: Thest protection radios

I can't answer your question, Mike. The standard radio wasn't in my original GP long enough that I even noticed it said Theft Protection. But all went well so it must not have been active. Plugged it back in and it works and the car starts.

Re: Thest protection radios

If your cars radio is locked....u can look up theft lock on google...or 94 grand prix radio lock. or something to that effect...there are plenty of sites where guys will get you the code to unlock ur radio without you going to the dealer to spend 45 to 60 bucks for them to do something simple....just a thought...

For pontiac I believe that it is 837. Try it once if it doesn't work wait until tomorrow and I can give you the 800 number to call. It is all automated and I'll give you the instructions. If you don't want to wait go on the blazer forum and search the forum. That is where I got if from. I have blazer with a pontiac radio. (I love my Pontiacs)
