The Big Lebowski: Dude's Car

I'd like to build the car used by the Dude (Drugo is his name in the italian version of the film) in "the big lebowski" movie, surely my preferred one.
Do you know wich car is that? Who makes that car in 1/24 scale?
thanks

Re: The Big Lebowski: Dude's Car

That would be the 1972 Pontiac LeBaron. He mentions the year, make, and model (after the car is stolen) to the cops in his house.

As far as tracking a model of one goes, ya got me there. Several of the GMs of the time (around the 70's) had similar body styles. May want to try looking at the older GM line-up and find a matching (or close) model there.

Hope that helps, if even a little bit. Great movie, too.

Actually it's so rare that it doesn't even exist. Pontiac never made a LeBaron, that was a Chrysler model (a little Cohen bros. twist in the dialogue).

It's been a long time since I saw the movie so I can't even recall what the car looked like, but here's a 1972 Chrysler LeBaron... is that it?

Re: The Big Lebowski: Dude's Car

nobody is even close, its a 1973 Ford Torino, Johan made a 2 door 1972 Torino kit, but it would require literally years of scratchbuilding to make it look anything like the car from the movie, here's a crappy pic of a 1973 Ford Torino

Re: The Big Lebowski: Dude's Car

That movie had a lot of little mistakes in what they said and what was actually on screen. Like the marmot was played by a ferret. It wasn't a Pontiac Lebaron, obviously, and though I never looked at it before, I'm sure gasman is right, it looks exactly like that Torino. You've got all the painting reference you need, right from the movie too...

"Green. Some brown, or, uh, rust, coloration."

I hope you find what you need, building that car would be the greatest thing ever. Really, though, I wouldn't shy away from finding some other early 70s sedan and making it look the same through paint work.

Re: The Big Lebowski: Dude's Car

a torino indeed. that oughta teach me to post on forums at 4am.

i did manage to find a couple, 70 cobra here and a 69 cobra here. some modification required (what fun would it be without it).

those oughta get ya goin' on the right track now. sorry for the mix-up, i was tired and apparently incoherent. anything along those lines should do the job as far as the main body goes, and being a 2-door. the hood will have to go though.

Re: The Big Lebowski: Dude's Car

Looking through the selection of 70s cars at Modelexpress.net, the '78 Dodge Monaco would really capture the look of the car - the odd 70's four door design etc. I know it's not the correct car, but with something like this, where the car wasn't meant to be particularly memorable, it would be completely acceptable to me, and actually, more correct to my logic, since the Coen Bros. probably didn't really care what car it was as long as it looked right ("Pontiac Lebaron" is a pretty good indication on how serious they were about the car).

Here's a linky: http://www.modelexpress.net/cgi-bin/...AMT_38060.html

I'm gonna get that one and copy your project! I guess you're in Italy, so you won't be too mad if I buy this out from under you Now, which version of this car I'll replicate, I don't know. How it was at the start? After he crashed into the garbage? After it was stolen? After the Corvette owner bashed it up? After the nihilists set it on fire? Weeee!!! You're cool, LAPO!

but.... maybe i already have that car in my basement! It is the same used by Rosco of "Hazzard"... but i have also planned to make a diorama using the General Lee and the Daisy's Jeep. so... i need another kit anyway...
The version i will do is the one after the garbage crash, after it has been stolen, but BEFORE the Corvette owner bashed it up. I want my windshield in because i love to listen to Creedence and sometimes i need to roll a number safely...

PEACE & LOVE!

Re: The Big Lebowski: Dude's Car

i have planned to make a small diorama in wich the Dude inside the car looks down and keeps in the right hand a bottle of beer with the bottom up (who knows why). Outside the car makes a quick steer in the direction af a big green garbage box. Of course the front left window is closed....
