So 97 gr. am. 160,000 2.4l quad4. finished replacing the head gasket timing and even the heater core.
drove it around then let it sit for about 2 hours and a huge puddle of oil ws on the ground under the car. also noticed a trail of oil on the driveway and into the garage. i am so sick of this dam engine. it was way over thought when gm got together and built it. so any help would be great since i am at wits end here. Re: 97 gr am trouble
Welcome to AF!!
There are a couple of items that could cause this first check to make sure that the oil filter is tight and the seal is intact. If that checks out check to see if you can locate where the oil is coming from. Worst case scenerio is that the rear main seal has gone bad and will need to be replaced. If you locate the area post again and someone will help you as much as possible. |

Re: 97 gr am trouble
4 cyl grand am's 92-95 had the 2.3, in 1996 it was changed to a 2.4. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. As for the oil leak, did you replace the gasket on the timing cover? Its a rubber coated gasket, I have seen a few where someone changed the head gasket and didnt' change the timing chain cover gasket because they didn't think they needed to.
