First ticket - 55 in a 35

couple hours ago i was pulled over for doing 55 in a 35. im 17 and this is my first ticket. on this little card thing he gave me, it said like 150$ fine and 4 points for 20mph over. so do i just go to the court and pay them my 150$ or what? then how long do the 4 points stay on my lisence? how much will my insurance be affected by this?

thanks.

Re: First ticket - 55 in a 35

it depends if yo want to plead guilty or not. but, don't waste yours or others time ---if you know you were wrong. just ask the judge for supervision and see what that will get you.

i'm sure others will have a differnt opinion. it just matters how you want to appoach it.

Not sure if they have the ability to or not but here you can do community service for a ticket and they will put it on a stet and it wont show the ticket through mva, or your insurance. I did it a few years back on my provisional license it was 8 hours for 9 over.

Im waiting to see what i get for 50 in a 30, $145 fine should be about 16 hours.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.

Re: First ticket - 55 in a 35

Dress nice, bring a parent, be polite, plead not guilty and go to court. Chances are they will offer you a plea bargain. Try negotiating to see what your options are, ie, community service, traffic school, defensive driving. Basically settle for anything that is not points. A fine is a one time thing. Points will be a PITA and cost you hudreds if not thousands more for your insurance for the next 3 years at least.

Any ticket with points on it, is worth fighting. I don't care what anybody else says. 99% of the time you are offered a bargain before you ever even enter court. Also keep in mind, many judges will cut you a break automatically your first time, but be MUCH MUCH harsher if they see you back in a 2nd time. So do yourself a favor and slow down. Many states have different laws regarding minors and the number of tickets/points they can get before their licenses are suspended. So check into that as well.

Lastly, just check out a few other threads in here with "my first ticket" in the title. There is plenty of good 'in-court' advice that I simply don't feel like repeating over and over again.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Absolutely correct. The worst thing you can do is to just pay the ticket. It stays on your record for three years and will cost you in insurance premiums. Go to court and negotiate for a reduction.
