checking speakers

On my 99 Blazer, the rear passenger speaker is not working. How would I use a multimeter to check if it is the speaker itself, wire etc..?

Thanks in advance.

Re: checking speakers

I don't think you are going to get enough voltage from the speaker wires to check them with a volt meter. I would find another speaker and hook it up momentarily to soo if it is the speaker or wires. Do either rear speakers work? If one works and the other doesn't, switch them to see if it is spkr or wires.

Re: checking speakers

Yes,you can check for voltage at a speaker. Connect a voltmeter set to ac volts crank up the music and watch the meter go to the beat of the music. However beings how you can produce ac voltage just by the friction of the air on the leads (very small amount of voltage) make sure that you are not letting the meter trick you.
Also look on the back of the speaker for the resistance, if that is not what you get when you test the speaker, toss it.
