Re: smog removal 101

with the cat you'd want to close off the egr valve port, ditch the air pump, plug/crimp the air tubes just to start. do you have smog testing requirements to meet? the free'd up hp isnt any good if you cant get it inspected.

Re: smog removal 101

Why why why........you gotta remove the smog thingamgig. What happens when you take the cats out what are the o2 sensors going to tell the computer along with the 20 to 30 other very important FALSE infomation being sent the computer?
What about the big pic. the big blue ball we live on? It use to be take it off, everything.
This is the 21 century it is easier and some times cheaper to do it the right way.The auto industry has come a long way and have become very powerfull and fuel efficent at the same time.
Do it right the first time. There are headers that will fit rigtht up to your stock system.
NOT TO MENTION IT IS ILLEGAL.

Your car was made to run with all the emissions equipment intact. It may run worse without it. Plenty of people have fast cars that are 100% emissions compliant. You should really go that way instead of causing more problems for yourself.

I'm also one of those who feel good about having my car being totally emissions legal. It helps the environment plus I refuse to allow NY state to stop me from driving my car. Most of the '84 and older cars are off the road due to the strict emissions.

Re: smog removal 101

This guy asked how to do something. We're all glad your cars' are emissions legal. They are a class of their own. '84 and older cars arent off-road due to emissions, they are more than likely emissions exempt. If they are off-road its probably due to them being a rust bucket or part failure vs resale price.

It sounds like he wants to make his car his own. The after-market parts availability is moreso plentiful, cheaper, makes everything simpler, cleaner looking. With taking out the emissions he'd undoubtedly take out the computer. No erroneous signals present then. I personally like a nice cc modded engine, to disqualify myself as a hater.

Its only illegal if the state says it is. I was never presented with the opportunity to have a smog test with a vehicle inspection in NY or OH. OH currently does it every other year depending on its manufacture year. Contingent up on county of residency. Which is also on a downward trend as they are removing the smog test next year.
