when my 93 automatic trooper with a 3.2 is cold,such as in the morning,the transmission acts funny.when going from 2nd to 3rd gear during acceleration,the transmissinn jumps into neutral.i have to let off the gas for a second ,and then its shifts fine.it only does this when it is cold...when the trooper is warmed up it shifts with no problem.any idea what this could be??fluid level is fine..and it only does it going into 3rd gear.

when was the last time that the fluid was changed?

1t has 175,500 miles on it now.i think it was done back around 110,00.could that cause this problem??like i said,after it warms up,it shifts fine...

dirty or low fluid can cause this.
also your shift selector could be gummed upped (search for shift selector). If may be worth your time to at least drop the pan and change the filter and replace some of the fluid. Or drain what you can (4 of the 9 quarts) and then top it off. replacing part of the fluid may help. I would not recomend having it flush due to the age and the number of miles on it. Most Isuzu's trannies like 30-35k fluid changes. People that go 100k usually kill them around that mileage without fluid changes.

i did consider getting a full transmission flush.how could this be bad on my transmission??where is the shift selector??is it in the transmission??

To flush it, sometimes forces those particules through the torque convertor ruining it; or sometimes that gunk is what's holding the tranny together, seriously. And when you flush it after going that many miles, not only can you freak it out, but you can literally cause the seals to go bad as well. Personally, I have 153k on my auto tranny now, have had 4 flushes - at 35k; 65k; 90k; and 118k miles; and two services of just dropping the pan & doing a partial flush/change filter, one at 73k and just yesterday at 153k. The flush at 118k is the last flush I will do; I didn't have any problems, but the seals and gaskets are not exactly young anymore, and neither is my tranny. It will get the typical drain/refills every 10-15k miles from here on out.

First, I'd clean the range sensor. Then, I'm not sure how the 1993 4L30E is setup, but If so equipped, I'd drain 3-4qts thru the trans pan drain plug, or pump 3-4qts out thru the dipstick tube & add fresh ATF. Drive it for a week or two. If all is well, then do an ATF transfusion.
