Good source for parts?
I just found out that I need a new gas tank. Can anyone suggest an online place to buy the tank, straps and possibly the sending unit? The prices I was given were $200 for the tank, $55 for the straps and $200 for the sending unit. I think these are insane so I'd like to get them myself.
I'm in canada, so the company should preferrably be located in Canada. If they ship to Canada that would be ok too though. I've found a good deal on a tank in the US, but it was 24 gal. and meant for the supercharged version. Any idea if it would work/fit? |

Re: Good source for parts?
The tank doesn't matter whether it is off a supercharged or non-supercharged car. The fuel pumps are different but not the tanks. You may want to check some wrecking yards for parts, they are a lot cheaper. Car-part.com has wrecking yards all over including Canada.

Re: Good source for parts?
Ok, thanks.
Here is the one that I found. http://www.carpartswholesale.com/sto...EIGHTY%20EIGHT It says it's 24 gal. and has a "w/supercharger" line. I've also found information that said the 1993 olds came with an 18 gal tank. Did they in fact come in 2 different sizes, the larger being for the supercharger? |

Re: Good source for parts?
That is a really good deal for a new tank. The supercharged vehicle probably had a larger tank due to using more fuel. You may need new straps to bolt it up but other than that it should fit the vehicle. Good Luck!!

Re: Good source for parts?
The thing to do is find out the timensions of the tank to your current tank. If the 24 gallon is deeper, you might have to use the supercharge version sending unit and pickup so that you get accurate reading and full use of the tank. Other than that the tank should fit your car with only a strap change.

Where do you live in Canada? There may be another way to find one at a reasonable cost to you.

Re: Good source for parts?
I've found one at a wrecker's for $75. Supposed to be in good shape, I'll see on Saturday I guess.
I'm in Ottawa. All the local parts stores want $200 for a new one. |

Re: Good source for parts?
I hope it works out for you since the shipping cost from car parts wholesale is way too high. Good Luck!

Re: Good source for parts?
Here's a used parts source in your home province that might be worth looking into. The owners a standup guy and very friendly. At least he was when he raced with us here in the states.
www.plazek.com It's a huge auto recycler on the Canadian side of Niagra Falls. Hope this helps your search. |
