'94 Rodeo... Replacing fron hubs?
Ok guys (and gals)... The tranny problem was so much fun I'm ready for a new adventure (or NOT.)
I'd like to replace my OEM (auto-locking) fronT hubs with manual locking hubs... A couple of questions: Both Warn and Superwinch offer them at comparable pricing... Any recommendation as to which to purchase? Does this job require any special tools, secret hand-shakes (or fuses to check)? (I ask mostly because the ALLDATA site runs to TWENTY PAGES of instructions on how to service the OEM units, and DOES list a half dozen secret tools that you have to have...) JM |

The only special tool I can think of is some retaining ring pliers.

Re: '94 Rodeo... Replacing fron hubs?
from what i have read on 4x4wire.com, installing manual hubs is an easier (determined by your skill level, i guess) job. not something i feel confortable in doing at this moment...but make sure you keep a step by step log for us!!!

Thanks... for the OEM/Auto hubs, (besides an assortment of bearing/seal installers) the ALLDATA site lists: (1) an "inner-cam installer (# J-38194). <I'm assuming that it is NOT NEEDED, with the manual hub, correct?> (2) a PAIR of tools, (# J-36835-2 and # J-36836) apparently needed to check snap ring groove clearance (?) <Are shims needed with the manual hub conversion?> (3) a "tool driver" (# J-36835-1) apparently needed to pull the axle outward for snap ring/shim installation (?) I am hoping that none of these are necessary for the manual hubs... Do you even need to remove the entire hub/rotor unit? (Wheel/tire?) Or is this something that can be accessed from the outside? Thanks, JM |

Re: '94 Rodeo... Replacing fron hubs?
weren't aisins stock on a manual 4x4 trooper? if that was the case, you may be able to go to the junk yard to find some used ones.

i don't think the forums have an issue with adding to this post later--or at least linking to it. i'd say it's amigo-2k's call (mod)--and he is great!

Good morning... I'm not clear on whether you are looking for step-by-step info on my past tranny woes, or on my upcoming front-hub adventure... Since were are here and not there, I'll assume for the moment that you would like the info about the hub swap. (If not, send me a note and I'll go back through the tranny exercise.) Yesterday, as I Googled "Aisin", I came across what appear to be, two usefull links: http://www.planetisuzoo.com/articles.htm?id=80 http://myweb.cableone.net/bcanderson...al%20hubs.html Let me know if this is the kind of info that you are looking for... Regards, jim |
