aluminum tube frames for sale?

What would one be willing to pay for something like this? It takes around 3 weeks about 2 hours a day to build...

Let me know!

sorry if this is in the wrong place!

Agreed, it is more a work of art than anything else!

Re: aluminum tube frames for sale?

Not alot, without better pics and more explanation of what it is. Soldered, glued, welded? Replica of an actual frame from a production vehicle, or one of a kind 'custom' from the modeler's imagination? Your post in Completed/In-Progress says what it's for, but not much else about it.

Further, the thought occurs that if you're really trying to sell them, you may do better with an audience other than a group of people that would make such a thing on their own for fun. Think maybe diecast collecters instead of model builders....

Re: aluminum tube frames for sale?

How about doing a how to, explaining how you did everything, the other thread, doesn't tell us much about what solder you use, what size aluminium, and doesnt' tell us where he got the plans from to make the chasis, exactly how you measured out the angles on the bends, and what tolerance of piping that you need. I was thinking of having a go at this on my 1/12 F40 and my plymouth prowler, but I wasn't to sure what materials I would need. Looks great though. In a shop I would pay about £25 for it, but it would be better to go for the diecast area, its alot more there sort of thing.

Re: aluminum tube frames for sale?

Ok, Thanks for the replies guys. All I wanted was a little feedback and I received it plus a little more. I was just wondering what some of you would pay for something like this....... Its 1/16" tubing from K&S. I glue it all together with "GEL" super glue. No plans or measurements used, except for matching the sides and I dont even use a ruler or any measuring device for that either. I do it all by eye. This is not a replica of any frame. Its all done in my head, however I can do replica frames.

I dont see why this should be aimed towards diecasts only. I know these frame can only be used for trucks, hotrods ect.....and not imports. I also know people here can make these themselves, but there are the many others that cant and would like the nice touch of a frame like this. Fairly detailed, and pretty realistic, I think its a nice touch for any build!

thanks for looking........................

Re: aluminum tube frames for sale?

i think the point is, a lot of the guys here can probably do the same thing if they ever wanted to, especially seeing as a few of them already scratch build entire subframes and what-not into otherwise curbside kits.

on the other hand, if you're seriously think of supplying them on a professional basis, then first of all, i think it might be better to use something other than Aluminium tube and superglue. It might also work better if you concerntrate on a core set of existing frames first. Ones that come to mind would be let's say the chassis for the various ferrari or lamborghini. I think that real frames will be more popular than made up ones. Whihc brings me onto why "not imports"?

Re: aluminum tube frames for sale?

Maybe I went a little wrong on this, but was just trying to get a idea. A few people here and on another forum asked how much I would charge. So I figured id ask evryone what they would pay.

Actually, I would ultimatly like to break them down to managable piece and cast them. I also had planned on making car spacific frames. I agree that core set frames would be more popular, I also think that "custom" 1-off frames would also.......

I didnt really plan on making kit frames from aluminum and super glue. There actually pretty fragile due to super glue is very brittle. If there was a easy way to join two aluminum pieces in this scale, I would do it. I like the look of a highly polished or brushed aluminum frame instead of paint. Plus, building out of straight stock, takes way to long. I need something I can cast, something that doesnt take 11hrs to build. The cost of the frame would be outragous if I charged by what I think my time is worth on something like this.

Thanks for the responces............ There all basically everything that has ran through my head. Just was getting a basic idea.

Re: aluminum tube frames for sale?

I'd pay zero because it has no value to me, but it could worth a lot to others. Althouhg I think it can be much shorter, you took 42 hours to build that, so if you charge $10-20 per hour, it translates to $420-840.

Put it up on eBay with a nice html presentation page and start the bid at $420 or something. Art is subjective, so someone might find yours valuable.
