Grinding Noise

ok guys...i hear a slow rotating grinding noise between 2k and 3k rpm...actually all the time but more so in the 2-3k range, and early in the morning after a cold night. It started happening a few days ago(2 or 3) i have had the car for about 2 weeks and put a CAI on it the first week i got it...already has exhaust...also a ticking noise from a black plastic cylinder above some sensor on passenger side of the engine...any ideas on either?? could they be related?? i started thinking maybe TOB rattle but based on the fact that it doesn't matter if the clutch is in or out and it rattles all the time i'm trying to re-evaluate...thanks

Re: Grinding Noise

lifter tick??

as for the grinding noise, did it only happen after you put the CAI on or was it before to? if it was only after, try puttingthe stock intake back on, or go back and check every last clamp and make sure its on good and there are no openings

that depends on teh grind though, the grind i'm thinking could possibly be sandpaperish, not like metal grinding metal in your transmission

Re: Grinding Noise

not lifter tick...when i pinch off the hose connected to the sensor the ticking goes away feels like airflow or something...as far as the grind it is sandpaperish. It is very light could be due to airflow so im thinking they might be related but i could be wrong i was wondering if anyone has heard the same noise...

Re: Grinding Noise

i kno filters make interesting suction noises that may be mistaken for sand paper, if there is a mis-connected piece somewhere then that may cause some noise like that, but i'd imagine it'd sound more like suction, defnitely check all of those

as far as the ticking goes, you've got me lost there, i have not a clue
maybe check your oil level?
oh yeah, also make sure the bracket for your intake is on there really good, mine would tick some if it got loose when i first got it, i still need to go tighten it down again

Re: Grinding Noise

Well, from what i have gathered, the lifters, although ticking, are not a real problem...its more a sound issue. I may be wrong, but that is the impression i get. Also, my lifters tick only when my car is warming up, it goes away after my temp goes up. So i dont really care.
