Angry 95 eclipse blew heater hose, now will not start

Helo All,

i have a 95 eclipse 2.0 (non turbo). The other day I blew a heater hose on the freeway, temp guage did not go up and engine started making a racket. Long story short, I coasted to an off ramp and routed the hose back into itself bypassing the core. Filled all the fluids, got it up to running temp and noticed a slight ticking up by the timing and a bit of hesitation on exceleration. Drove fine for a day or so and now it will not start, the motor turns over but wont crank, checked the timing belt and it looks good. My question is, can the motor still run with a broken valve if that is what has happened? I am just assuming it is the timing from what I have read, I will check the compression and spark when I get home this evening.

thanks in advance for any help and suggestions that anyone can provide.

Joel

Re: 95 eclipse blew heater hose, now will not start

What do you think I am looking at if this is the case.
I bought the car 8 months ago for $800, a buddy of mine needed the money so I pretty much took it out from under him before he had time to think. Put 4 new tires on it for $300. So I have roughly $1100 in it. Will it be worth putting it in the shop or should I junk it?

I wouldn't junk it but only take it to a shop if u absolutly have to, and do not take it to the dealer.

I think it's more likely that you warped the head. The car probably overheated and warped it. If you can do the work yourself it shouldn't cost more than $200. I you take it to a shop it will be pretty expensive. Im not sure how much but probably more than $500.

How long did you drive with heater hose blown and no fluid? Don't jump to conclusions yet. Have a compression, and leakdown test done or do it yourself. Post back with your results.

Re: 95 eclipse blew heater hose, now will not start

Ok, here is what I found out last night and what I tried.

1. put in new NGK plugs to test spark - good spark. (knew I couldnt be that lucky). Number 1 plug was covered in oil and not just wet but soaked. looked down into the cylinder and just looks burnt like the others.

2. tried to turn it over to test the new plugs and it wants to start but it is just not there. I am checking to see with a mechanic I know to see what he will charge to adjust the timing since I dont have the time to do it.

It's probably the head gasket or warped head do a compression test (you can get a tester at an autoparts store for like $25)

Talking Re: 95 eclipse blew heater hose, now will not start

It is amazing what you can see in the daylight and when you have fresh eyes.
Note to self - do not have 4 guys over drinking all your beer trying to fix your car...... Seems that when we were trying to start it after the new NGK plugs were in someone forgot to put the #1 plug wire back on..... Put the wire on and she fired right up. LOTS and LOTS of white smoke coming from the tail pipe. Looked around it for awhile and turned it off before she got up to normal running temp. Looks like I am going to be having the head milled and replace the head gaskets. Are there any other things I should do while I have the top torn off?

thanks for all the help guys..

Joel
