Remote start

I bought my 95 Jimmy about 3 years ago and the previous owner had an aftermarket remote start/ keyless entry unit installed. Great while it lasted, but i dropped the remote and it no longer works. Didn't seem too bad till i tryed getting a replacement. After quite a few google searches and talks to the local car audio place (they do remote starters too) nobody has heard of my unit. How hard would it be just to take out the existing unit, label the wires and hook them up to the new harness that comes with a new kit? I really miss my keyless entry and remote start on the cold mornings.

I had a 94 Blazer and the remote starter install wasn't too bad. It should be fairly simple being that the wires should be prepared already and you can label them as you said. In my 98 it was more complicated. It has the PASS anti-theft system and it was a bit of a chore to install the bypass for that. You have to measure the resistance of the system after turning the key and install a variable resistor of the same impedence, pain in the butt! I don't know if 95's have the PASS system, but it still should be easier since there is already a unit installed. Just curious, what brand/model is in there? I have a Crimestopper.

I got this one installed in my 97 at a local car audio shop and its awesome, nor problems since I got it a year ago. It pages you if your car is being broken into, like a viper paging system.

While not all remote starts hook up exactly the same, if you are resourceful and careful you should not have much trouble hooking up another unit, making whatever changes are necessary as you go. Be sure to get the information you need beforehand, don't just blindly go in and start hooking up wires, and don't assume that the wire colors are going to be the same from unit to unit - they generally are not.

I have no clue what brand or type starter it is, all it says on the case is LTD.

And going along with the color of the wires part just mentioned, all the wires coming into the box are labeled on the box, i was just gonna take a piece of masking tape and mark what each wire is, and then hook up the appropriate wires to the new harness.

but according to what im hearing, once i figure out what wire goes where this should be a simple swap... right?

It should be fairly simple. You don't have to go through the process of tracking down which wire does what. With the wires labeled it will just be a matter of hooking up the new harness. I don't know if you were planning to do this, but I would trace the old harness back and label the vehicle wires so I could take the old harness completely out. Less chance of corroded/bad connections and less clutter under the dash. Shouldn't be too difficult though, good luck!
