bmw transmission

i have a 1994 bmw 525i with an auto trans zf type i believe. i feel like a prat for asking but please how do you drain and check the transmission fluid level. i can see the large drain plug but not the fill and level plug as on most cars(well audis anyway). The car has a leak and i need to find out from were

Well maybe you already have taken care of your transmission, but this is the way it goes. The Zf transmission drain plug is in the bottom of the sump as you noticed and the fill plug is on the right near the the sump-to transmission mating surface. On early ZF transmission the fill plug is a large inverted hex on the sump. Make sure that your car is in a level surface when doing this, and always use a new sealing washer on the drain plug.
