Just bought a 95 Escort

Hello,

I have two quick questions about my escort.

1) The car starts beeping when I first open the door, like it would if you left the lights on or started the car and opened the door. This one just beeps right away. Thoughts?

2) How do I tighten the spoiler on my 2DR Hatch, it has come loose.

Thanks,
G

Re: Just bought a 95 Escort

I can't help ya with the spoiler... but I would assume what you need is on the underside of the trunk lid...

I can have a look at a wiring diagram later if needed... but as for the beeping I'd suspect one of two things...
1. As you know the beeping occurs when keys are left in the ignition... perhaps the ignition switch is faulty.
2. The beeping occurs when the lights are left on... perhaps the light switch is faulty?

I am not sure what the connectors are like on the circuit... but I wonder if maybe something is backwards? If you leave the lights on will the beeping go away?

Not sure how to test the ignition switch... but perhaps if the beeping continues after unplugging the light switch you can focus on the ignition?

Or isn't there a button in the door to signal when door is open or closed? That switch could be junk.

Re: Just bought a 95 Escort

Sounds to me as if the door switch is doing its job just fine.
The beeping would not occur unless the lights were on or the key was in the ignition when the door was opened.
You car seems to think one of those two is true...

My suspicion would be that the ignition has been damaged. No way to tell you that for sure though.

If you wanted, you could probably just pull the fuse... not sure if anything else is on that same circuit though.

Take the rear stop light out if the spoiler and you should find the retaining bolts. The outer ends of the wing are held into place by plastic retainers. You can get new inserts for the deck lid, but if the locks on the spoiler are broken then you have 2 choices. Buy a new wing, or drill up from the bottom and put a self tapping screw into it.

Re: Just bought a 95 Escort

My 95 had the same problem with the beeper. I clipped one of the wires that monitors the key position in the column. That way I still have the lights on protection (which I have a bad habit of forgetting ) and the peace and quiet of no *^%$ beeping everytime I open the door. Remove the shroud that clamshells around the steering column and mine had 2 white wires going to a switch mounted next to the keyway. I clipped one and that was that.
