Fuel Gauge Problem

Help... I have a prob with my fuel gauge... A while back my gauge was reading perfectly... But all of a sudden it always reads full reguardless of how much gas it really has...


Any suggestions??

sounds like a ground probably one close to the tank under car what year make model is it

its a 99 Z24 Rag top... So should if it is a short/ or if it is grounded out where can I get a guide to check the wires?

i am not sure where you would find a diagram but you would probably be able just to see it check your tank ground underneath the car by the tank i will try to find a wiring diagram for the car that i can post i will try to post the one out of my haynes manual, If you do alot of work on the car or really even just the odd thing you should look into getting one i did and its been a real life saver, I think it cost like 22 buck canadian so its a pretty inexpensive guide

eh i dont know if a 99 would use the float , but that could be sticking as well

I have the same problem since I bought the car. I go 300 miles then fill up.
Now where to look for the ground?
Doubt its a float because mine will drop to 3/4 at 100 miles. Then back to full as more miles I drive til next fill up.

You may have to drop the tank down a little bit, but you need to take the sender out of the top of the tank to check it. It may be stuck or shorted. Be careful you don't do anything to affect the fuel pump while you're in there.
If you need a sender I don't think you can buy them at Autozone or the other stores. Maybe NAPA or Chevy dealer.

Bad ground or corroded connections at the tank? I believe if you lose contact with the sender in the tank the gauge goes full.Its the resistance of the tank sender that regulates the gauge back down from Full.
