Trans Problem

I believe the tranny I have is still in good working order but I'm not sure what exactly the problem is that i'm having it has been doin this for a year now I guess it is slipping but in only in low gears. The problem is about around 30 mphs when u hold the pedal steady the sound coming from the exhaust becomes very deep and rpms drop slightly and it will stay this way until you apply more pressure to the pedal. The transmission I guess is rebuild I seen a year ago it was fixed because it would not go into reverse.

Re: Trans Problem

sounds to me like its just going into overdrive or upshifting... doesn't really seem like anything is wrong...

Re: Trans Problem

Like everyone else said its normal especially for older trans to shift up early. My 89 drove me nuts with that. Adjusting the tv cable helps a little but dont go nuts with it or you could mess up your transmission.

Re: Trans Problem

One year after I got my tranny rebuilt, I had to have it serviced (required if you dont want to void the warranty) and I remember thinking that it was shifting wierd, but after the service(trans fluid flush and filter change) it seemed to shift completely differently. If your trans is under warranty, you may want to double check your paper work to make shure you dont need to take it in for a service, or you may end up voiding your warranty...but wether or not you have to get it serviced, you should have it serviced once a year or every 12k miles. Saves a lot of money in the long run, and you can do it your self if the warranty doesnt require you to have it done at the shop.
Also, if it is under warranty, you should take it back to the shop and take a ride with one of the techs and show him whats bothering you, just to be on the safe side.

Re: Trans Problem

I remeber went I first got it it did not do this. But one day I was going about 20 or so and just floored the pedal the car choked like it was about to cut-off but kept running and it has done this ever since.
The reason I ask this is because I want to put a posi-unit and some 3.42 gears on it but with the transmission acting funny I will just burn it out quicker right?

Re: Trans Problem

it will stay in the low gear unless you let off the gas and hit it to the floor then, otherwise it will speed up but it will be bogged.

Re: Trans Problem

I went to the trans shop today. The guy said the trans is in good condition but it does shift soft thru the first and second gear. He said the throttle valve needs to be updated and a corvette servo install would help it shift like a camaro should. 400 dollars what do you guys think...

i think that's a package deal with a muffler bearing?

The vetter servo would help, but do you already have a shift improver kit installed?
