there is a chance you won't NEED the belt for however much longer you have the car, but why you would want to walk the line like that

it is recommended you change the belt now, simply for the fact taht when the belt snaps your engine is history, you will need a new one, and that can run you from twice as much as doing the belt to 5 times as much if a dealership does it
so yes, you could walk the line, but only if you want a new motor pre-maturely
which brings me to another point, you don't HAVE to change your oil either, just don't come asking how to clean the dark gunky stuff out of your engine and why there is black smoke coming out your exhaust
