Re: best style of shifting when drag racing

Couple of tips for speedier/better shifts.

1. you dont have to push the clutch all the way to the floor to shift. Learn your cars friction zone, that point where the clutch and fly wheel disinegage. on my car I can shift with about an inch of clutch pedal travle...Ratehr then the 4-5 it takes to get the pedal to the floor.

2. Dont hold the shift lever like a flight stick... its not a handle.

3. The only time your hand should leave the steering wheel is to shift... Holding on to the shifter like a handle doensnt make you shift quicker and it gives you less control over the car in general.

Good read with pictures

Well, you have to finish the race in order to win the race, and given that "power shifting" has the highest chances of damaging/destroying your transmissin, it makes perfect sence to not do it. but hey, if you've got a bunch of spare $$$ laying around to rebuild transmissions, go for it.... Or better yet, send the cash to me, I need a new set of Track tires and another set of track pads. <img>

Re: best style of shifting when drag racing

get a good launch and shift at your top hp rpm. 1st get though shift where your car has the most tq, unless if u try that and it doesn't have as much pick up, but since ur robgsr, i assume u have a gsr, shift where your car's maunal says is the top hp level for your engine...other than that, there isn't much else to it and find your friction level where you can change gears, and put something behind your clutch petal so that you can just get used to pushing it that far safely of course, like somethin to let you know where your clutch disengauges the gear and u can shift but will allow you to shift if u go past it...idk a piece ofr cardboard.......that'll help a lot

Re: best style of shifting when drag racing

use it as an **indicator** to let you know that you have went past where you have disengauged fully already, so the clutch as far as you need to in order to shift...less movement = shorter shifting time... catch my drift place it on the _ side of under your dash, and like make it into a thing and you'll feel a difference next time you feel like WOT | |
