VTEC controllers
I came across this article on VTEC controllers:
http://tech.hybridgarage.com/tech/field.html What would undesireable effects would a controller cause (extra engine wear, etc)? Does anyone here use one on their car? |

Well playing with the F/A ratio while driving like that is IMO damn stupid, and good way to ruin an engine.
Its far to easy to run it lean, which (and Iv seen this happen more than once) will casue one or more cylinders to over heat. The result is anything from a cracked and melted (yes, the metal melts and drips away) piston to a cracked block. Quite simply any altering of the A/F ratio should always be done on a dyno in a controlled situation. As for adjusting the VTEC engagement point: WHY? Do you think Honda spent Millions of Dollors developing the technology and then decieded on what the engagement point would be by flipping a coin? Iv never liked VTEC controllers, they are a waste of time. (unless you have an H22, then its been shown that lowering the engage point about 400rpm is good for the torque curve, but bad for emissions.)

vtec controllers are great if you mod your cars, yeah honda spent millions on making their motors but, after you mod it don't you think it needs to be tuned?? The tuning then can be done either with a hondata/chip program or a vtec controller which is a cheaper way and i love mine it works great!!
