Flashing O/D Off Light means what???

98 model, the "O/D off" light is flashing and the car doesn't want to go into overdrive... Pressing the button on the shifter doesn't affect it... I'm sure this is something electrical, and of course I don't have the owners manual to look this one up... any ideas?

does it have a hard shift from 1-2 and does it have high shift points (6,500rpm-6,800) ?

yes, or else i have to let off the accelerator then wait for the shift....

Sound's like the TSS (Turbine Speed Sensor) to me.

Make a post on www.contour.org and ask around, they know more than I do.

Hi, RE your contour with high shift points and flashing o/d lamp, Possible TSS, More likely the VSS, Vehicle speed sensor, There is a ford TSB on it, This can happen without emiting a code, Good luck, they are not real easy to change...Clay..

ok i dont know anything about your problem but this brought up a problem of my own ... does anyone know how to get the overdrive working some back yard mechanic unhooked it in my 1998 contour sport before i bought it

take your shifter handle off, take the cover off the shifter stick. There should be two wires (green and black, or green and white). Wire up a SPST switch to it and mount it somewheres convienent.
