1997 K1500 4x4
1997 K1500, Is it common for the transfer case shift solenoid to go bad? Mine would go into 4 high fine but would take an act of congress to get into low. I never had problems with the front axle solenoid. I think it was updated.
Anyway... I was pulling A guy out 2 weeks ago and now it just blinks when I try to go into 4 high, It use to always work. I can hear the front actuator working. Any Ideas? Thanks Richard |

Re: 1997 K1500 4x4
If the light is blinking then there should be a troulbe code. All of the components on this truck have problems, the switch, t-case motor, and the accuator. I would almost bet that the problem with yours is the t-case motor.

Re: 1997 K1500 4x4
Ok get this... I get home last night and try to put it in 4 high and it works. WTF now it is back to its old ways... it goes in 4 high and can't get it into low unless the freakin stars align with uranus.... or myanus.
The hardest thing to fix is something that is not really broken!!!!!!! I think I am with you right now horse, my option is the T-case motor does anyone have a way to trouble shoot it? How does it work anyway? Isn't there only 2 wires going to it? It would have to be able to turn the shaft to 3 positions right? (2wd, 4wd high, 4wd low) I would appreciate any help Thanks Richard |

Re: 1997 K1500 4x4
Riche: Do like "horse" says and get the trouble codes. That's the only way to get a direction to go in. These parts aren't cheap and if you just start throwing stuff at it $$&??? Post back the DTC's and let us try and help you.....Steve

Re: 1997 K1500 4x4
Is a tech 2 the only scantool that will read them?
I have a carcode scantool... and it is not showing up. I had a guy with a tech 2 scan it before I changed my cats and it only had the p0420(whichever the catalist code is) no other ones... I guess I can try to pull a favor and get him to do it again. I have a buddy that has a scantool that has the pathfinder software on it will that one find it? I went to the guy with the tech2 b/c I thought I was having computer problems, the carcode scantool was not staying connected. come to find out it is a problem with 96&97 trucks only... I will try to find out what I can. |

Re: 1997 K1500 4x4
Try to find a local reapir shop that has a good scanner like a Snap-On MT 2500. I shouldn't cost more than $35-40 to scan for DTC's.
The system has several units. 1. The push button switch, sends a signal to the 2. Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) which sends a signal to the 3. Transfer Case Encoder Motor and Front Differential Actuator. This why we need the DTC's to point us in a direction to help you....Steve
